Born in 2022 to a Thai ethnic family in the remote mountains of Lao Cai, Huyen Thuong entered the world healthy and full of life. For her first two years, everything seemed normal. But soon after her second birthday, she began falling ill again and again, with recurring pneumonia, high fevers, and endless hospital visits becoming part of her childhood.

In September 2025, Thuong developed a high fever and had difficulty breathing. Her family rushed her to the regional hospital, where doctors diagnosed pneumonia and bronchitis but also suspected something more serious, a congenital heart defect. She was transferred to the Cardiovascular Center at E Hospital in Hanoi, a higher-level facility, where tests confirmed severe mitral valve regurgitation (Type II), a condition requiring urgent surgery.
At home, Thuong’s family lives in a simple stilt house with wooden walls and a dirt floor. Her grandparents farm for a living, while her mother works odd jobs as a street vendor, earning just enough to get by. When the diagnosis came, the family did everything they could to raise money, borrowing from relatives and friends. Even then, it was only enough to cover basic expenses while caring for Thuong at the hospital.
With the support of Nu Skin Vietnam and the Scar Of Life program, Thuong finally received her life-saving surgery in October 2025. Today, her bright smile and clear, curious eyes tell a story of resilience, the dedication of her doctors, the strength of a mother’s love, and the kindness of strangers who helped give her heart a second chance.
