Neonatal jaundice is a common condition, but if not monitored and treated promptly, prolonged jaundice can lead to extremely dangerous complications. In mountainous and remote areas, the treatment of jaundice using phototherapy is still challenging due to a lack of specialized equipment. Therefore, phototherapy lamps are always prioritized in the medical equipment list supported by the Neonatal Care program, aiming to help infants receive timely and safe treatment right in their birthplace.

In December 2024, Bat Xat District General Hospital was equipped with a heated bed integrated with double-sided phototherapy lamps, sponsored by the Diep Le Team. This modern device not only provides warmth and stabilizes the body temperature of newborns, especially vital during the cold winters of highland areas, but also enables effective and safe jaundice treatment locally, thanks to its ability to irradiate both sides of the baby during warming.

Ly – a baby girl from the Ha Nhi ethnic group, is one of the fortunate infants who received timely treatment thanks to this equipment. As the ninth child in a large, economically struggling farming family, Ly was brought to the hospital by her parents after traveling nearly 80 kilometers. Upon admission, she was suffering from severe jaundice extending to her palms, accompanied by post-meal vomiting. The doctors immediately began treatment using the heated bed with integrated phototherapy lamps. After five days of intensive care, Ly’s condition significantly improved, and she was discharged, bringing joy and relief to her family.

Neonatal Care sincerely thanks the Diep Le Team for accompanying us on the journey to preserve the rosy glow of newborns in highland areas, giving thousands of fragile young lives the chance to survive and grow up healthy.
