The tiny chest that had been heaving suddenly stopped…
A heavy silence swept across the delivery room at Simacai General Hospital in Lao Cai province when Baby Vang, the second daughter of a H’Mong mother, stopped breathing right after birth.
Immediately, the resuscitation protocol was activated. They used an intubation kit to clear her airway, squeezed an ambu bag to push oxygen into her fragile lungs, and worked tirelessly to expand each delicate alveolus. Every eye in the room was fixed on the tiny infant fighting for her life.
After nearly an hour of tense efforts, the room erupted in relief as her small chest began to rise and fall again, her tiny heart rhythmically pumping blood, and the purple hue of her skin gradually returned to a pink. Out of danger, Baby Vang was moved to the Pediatrics Department, where she continued to receive ventilator support and close monitoring.
In this critical moment, the intubation kit was the “key” that made it possible to save her life. It was one of the neonatal devices donated to Simacai General Hospital in February 2025 through the Neonatal Care program, made possible by the generosity of thousands of supporters in the MoMo Piggybank community.
Not long ago, doctors in neonatal emergencies had little more than inadequate tools to work with. With a mission to protect the very first breaths of newborns and premature babies, Neonatal Care visits local hospitals, listens to their needs, and provides essential equipment—giving healthcare workers in remote areas the tools they need to save lives.
Baby Vang’s survival is proof of what’s possible when a community comes together. Join hands with Neonatal Care to save even more babies.
