The Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City, the Youth Council, and the Children’s Council of Ho Chi Minh City, in collaboration with VinaCapital Foundation and the Vietnam Children’s Fund Social Enterprise, organized a free health screening program for over 1,000 disadvantaged children affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in Tan Phu District and District 12 on December 14, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City. The program is sponsored by companies and organizations, including MoMo (M_Service JSC), Lam Tran Import-Export Trading Co., Ltd., and the Deutsch-Vietnamesische Haus e.V. in Leipzig.

The medical examinations are conducted thoroughly and scientifically, encompassing all aspects of children’s health, such as general health assessment, visual assessment, otorhinolaryngology examination, dental examination, musculoskeletal examination, and psychological assessment. The City Children’s Hospital provides support to keep up the database and maintain the children’s medical records for long-term monitoring. If any physical or mental issues are detected, the VinaCapital Foundation’s Care to Rise program will cover the hospital treatment and other expenses. This approach has worked very well for the children with the HCMC Youth Union 4 year history. The program has benefited over 4,000 children in need, including 2,314 children orphaned by COVID-19 from financially disadvantaged families. All of the Covid-19 children are checked annually.

Doctor Ho Tan Thanh Binh, Deputy Director of the City Children’s Hospital, shared: “The health examination is a meaning activity, carried out thanks to the close coordination between the hospital and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and VinaCapital Foundation. Hopefully today’s examination will not only improve physical health but also spread joy and care to children and their families.

The Care to Rise program is divided into 3 phases with dedicated support for the children in each period of time. Phase 1 completed detailed surveys for individual assessment. Phase 2 with remedial assistance was implemented in 2022. The long-term care with health and education services, Phase 3, will carry the program benefits forward until the children no longer need help.
