Every child deserves to be born and grow healthy each day. However, not every baby has the opportunity to receive essential care from their first breath, especially in Si Ma Cai district, Lao Cai province – one of the 74 poorest districts in Vietnam. Difficult transportation conditions, along with the lack of critical medical equipment at the Si Ma Cai District General Hospital, have become significant barriers to ensuring timely and prompt treatment for the children.

In 2023, Si Ma Cai District General Hospital received over 1,600 births and 1,200 pediatric cases, all in the context of a severe shortage of medical equipment. Currently, the hospital’s infant warming bed – a crucial device for keeping newborns warm and treating jaundice – is broken, putting immense pressure on the hospital’s capacity to care for newborns. Or intubation kit – a crucial device for neonatal resuscitation, but it has been severely damaged.

The “Neonatal Care” for remote areas program, implemented by  the Vietnam Children’s Fund in partnership with MoMo App, aims to raise 200 million VND to provide 16 essential medical devices for the hospital. As of January 6, 2025, the program has successfully raised 86% of the funds, meaning there is only 14% left to reach the fundraising goal, these devices will soon help care for and save approximately 1,500 newborns each year.

Every contribution, no matter how big or small, brings hope and a new life to thousands of newborns in this region.
