As Thanh Huyen from An Giang prepared to enter eighth grade, her summer should have been filled with carefree days spent with family and friends. Instead, she found herself traveling back and forth to Ho Chi Minh City for one of the most important heart procedures of her life.
Thanh Huyen was diagnosed with a heart abnormality at the age of five and had been monitored ever since. In August 2026, doctors determined that she needed an intervention to treat her atrial septal defect (ASD) at University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City.
Her family was already facing financial hardship. Her mother works at a shoe factory, earning around VND 4.5 million a month, while her father takes on whatever temporary work he can find. Her two older siblings have only recently started working and have yet to secure stable incomes. The cost of the heart procedure was simply more than the family could afford.
Amid the mounting worries, timely support from compassionate hearts brought new hope to this young student. Through Vietnam Children’s Fund Social Enterprise’s Scar Of Life , Real Logistics covered the cost of her procedure, giving Thanh Huyen the chance to receive the treatment she needed and successfully complete her heart intervention.
