“He looked tall and healthy, so I never imagined my child could be suffering from such a serious illness. Without the program, I don’t know how we could ever have afforded his treatment,” Anh Phu’s mother shared.

From a young age, Anh Phu was often sick. Due to financial constraints, his parents could only take him for basic checkups and treat each illness as it came. When he started school, Anh Phu occasionally felt tired and short of breath after physical activity, but these signs were dismissed as normal. It was not until a school medical screening by doctors from Cho Ray Hospital that Anh Phu was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and advised to undergo surgery as soon as possible.

Anh Phu lives with his parents and his younger sister, who is in first grade. His mother is a homemaker who also works in the fields and runs a small local trade to support the family. His father is a day laborer, taking on any available work. With unstable income, the family struggles to meet daily expenses. Even with health insurance, the cost of Anh Phu’s surgery was nearly 80 million VND – an amount far beyond the family’s means.

Understanding their circumstances, the Social Work Department of Cho Ray Hospital helped the family apply for support from Scar Of Life. With sponsorship from the An Nhien Fund through the Scar Of Life program, Anh Phu successfully underwent heart surgery in January 2026.

The generosity of donors provided not only financial support but also renewed hope and confidence for Anh Phu and his family. We sincerely thank the An Nhien Fund for partnering with the Scar Of Life program to help save young hearts.
