Born at 36 weeks via an emergency C-section, Binh An was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect with a risk of heart failure. In his early years, his life has been shaped by medications and frequent trips from his hometown to Ho Chi Minh City for medical check-ups. His fragile condition means he often falls ill. Now over three years old, Binh An weighs just 11 kg. At his most recent visit, doctors recommended an intervention to close the ventricular septal defect so he can grow up healthier.

However, his family is facing significant hardship. Binh An lives with his parents, older brother, and grandparents, both over 70. His mother had to leave her job entirely to care for him full-time. All household expenses, including his brother’s schooling and Binh An’s medical costs, now rest on his father, who earns a modest income as a factory worker.

Understanding these challenges, the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City guided the family in applying for support from Vietnam Children’s Fund Social Enterprise’s Scar Of Life program. With the support of Amata Bien Hoa Urban Joint Stock Company, Amata Long Thanh, and Amata Ha Long, Binh An’s treatment costs were covered in a timely manner.

On April 13, 2026, representatives from the sponsors and the program visited Binh An following his transcatheter ventricular septal defect closure. It is hoped that the road ahead will be peaceful, just as the meaning his family has lovingly given to his name.
