On August 21, Miss Universe Vietnam Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen and Miss Grand Vietnam Doan Thien An joined the KARE program of Vietnam Children’s Fund Social Enterprise for a Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) session with children receiving cancer treatment at Children’s Hospital 2 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Under the professional guidance of Ms. Bui Tuyet Minh, Master of Dance/Movement Therapy at Vietnam Dance/Movement Therapy (VDMT), and with the support of the two beauty queens and volunteers, the children began the session with deep-breathing exercises, gentle movements, and self-embracing activities – helping both children and parents reconnect with themselves and their emotions.

But perhaps the colorful parachute was the activity the children enjoyed most. They held onto it, moving it up and down together to the rhythm. Then, following Ms. Minh’s guidance, they imagined the parachute as their dreams and let them soar into the sky.

“Mommy, I’m so happy today!” one little boy joyfully exclaimed as everyone played together with the rainbow parachute. With every rise and fall, the colorful parachute seemed to carry the children’s dreams, imagination, and smiles. Whether they were only a few months old or already school-aged, whether they joined the entire session or only for a short while before returning to their treatment rooms, each child had the chance to enjoy a moment of simple, carefree childhood joy.

Throughout a child’s cancer treatment journey, psychological and social support is an essential part of holistic care alongside medication and medical interventions. Dance/Movement Therapy is one approach that uses movement to help children connect with their bodies, express emotions freely, and strengthen their interactions with those around them. In a hospital setting, these activities can create positive moments of respite, giving children and their families opportunities to relax, connect, and experience moments of joy-helping make the treatment journey a little less stressful.

KARE extends our heartfelt thanks to Miss Universe Vietnam Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, Miss Grand Vietnam Doan Thien An, the National Humanitarian Portal 1400, Ms. Bui Tuyet Minh from Vietnam Dance/Movement Therapy (VDMT), and all the volunteers for giving their time, care, and kindness to bring moments of love and joy to the children.
