A newborn’s first cry marks the beginning of hope and happiness for every family. Yet in remote and mountainous areas such as Tram Tau district in Lao Cai province, welcoming a new life still comes with significant risks due to the lack of essential medical equipment for neonatal care and resuscitation.

Tram Tau Regional Medical Center serves as the primary healthcare facility providing medical services and maternity care for people in the area. In cases where newborns experience complications or require specialized intervention, they must be referred to Regional General Hospital No.3, located approximately 29 kilometers away. Although the distance may not seem far, the winding mountain roads often make the journey take more than an hour, especially dangerous during the rainy season.

According to data from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the infant mortality rate in this area reaches 19.41 per 1,000 live births, meaning that nearly 20 out of every 1,000 babies do not survive their first year of life.

To help improve neonatal care and emergency response capacity at the local level, the Neonatal Care program of Vietnam Children’s Fund Social Enterprise, in partnership with the MoMo financial app, is calling on the community to support a fundraising campaign to equip Tram Tau Regional Medical Center with essential medical devices. These life-saving tools will enable local healthcare workers to provide timely neonatal care and resuscitation on-site, reducing the need for emergency transfers and improving survival outcomes for newborns.
