From September 8 to 11, Vietnam Children’s Fund’s Social Enterprise Congenital Heart Defects Screening program spent four days visiting four communes across Da Nang, bringing cardiac health check-ups closer to preschool and primary school children.

Over the course of the screening, 4,533 children received cardiac check-ups, with 30 cases of congenital heart defects identified. Of these, 16 children were recommended for surgery or intervention, while 14 others were advised to continue regular monitoring.

Congenital heart defects are among the most common birth defects and a leading cause of death in children. When detected early, many cases can be successfully treated. Yet access to healthcare remains a significant challenge for children living in areas where medical services are less accessible.

Making this four-day journey possible for more than 4,500 children, Vietnam Children’s Fund Social Enterprise sincerely thanks Ms. Huong Kivette and Ms. Trinh Le for their trust and generous support. We are also grateful to Ms. Minh Huyen for donating coloring crayons, coloring books, pencils, and erasers to 831 students on the final day of the screening. These small gifts carried a simple message: alongside a healthy heart, every child deserves a childhood filled with color, joy, and possibilities.

Finally, Vietnam Children’s Fund Social Enterprise extends our heartfelt gratitude to the Da Nang Association for the Support of Disadvantaged Women and Children, the doctors and medical staff of Da Nang Hospital, volunteers, and teachers who joined us throughout this screening journey.
