For many families of children born with congenital heart defects, saving their child’s life is not only a persistent battle against illness, but also a relentless financial strain. Some families are forced to borrow from every possible source, saving every small amount just to cover medication and follow-up visits. As debts accumulate, families who were already living on the edge find themselves under even greater pressure.

Ngoc Tran was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect shortly after birth. From her earliest days, surgery was recommended. At that time, however, her family lacked the financial means and was unaware of available support programs, so they brought her home for monitoring and additional check-ups. Over time, her health worsened significantly. Through a referral, her family brought her to Cho Ray Hospital, where surgery was once again indicated. Even after health insurance coverage, the remaining cost was nearly VND 100 million.

Fortunately, this time, Tran and her family did not have to face the journey alone. With the support of the hospital’s Social Work Department, her surgery was co-funded by donors through the Scar Of Life program and its partners.

When the family learned that benefactors would accompany them, a gentle smile appeared on her grandfather’s face after months of financial pressure and uncertainty.

Scar Of Life extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Dong Hai, whose generosity helped make Ngoc Tran’s surgery possible. Thanks to his support, Tran now has a renewed chance at a healthy life, and her family can begin to move ahead with stability.
