According to Ministry of Health estimates, 15,000 Vietnamese infants are born each year with heart defects. Depending on the complexity of the medical conditions, some cases require long-term surveillance, while others need early intervention since birth to safeguard the children's health.
Paying treatment charges of up to hundreds of millions of dong becomes an exceptionally heavy burden for families with low incomes or living in tough economic conditions.
Because there is no money for medical treatment, many children continue to suffer from congenital heart defects symptoms such as delayed physical development, cyanosis of the fingertips and lips, frequent wheezing, difficulty breathing, etc.
The Vietnam Children's Fund Social Enterprise established Scar Of Life program with the mission of connecting compassionate hearts across Vietnam to jointly sponsor the surgical costs for underprivileged children with congenital heart defects. We desire to protect and bring a brighter future to all of them.
In addition to helping these young warriors lead normal lives after surgery, the program aims to alleviate the financial burden on their families. When these children are healthy, their parents can focus on working, improving the family's quality of life and contributing to the national goal of eradicating hunger and reducing poverty.
